History: At least two meaty paragraphs
Tonks was born May 3, 1973 to Ted and Andromeda Tonks, in the final years of the Ministry-controlled world. Tonks spent the first few years of her life in relative peace, and stability, playing dress up with her dolls, and wandering the shops of Diagon Alley with her mother. Some of her fondest childhood memories, however, involve dancing around to her father's record collection.
When the Ministry was overtaken, Ted and Andromeda reluctantly fled to the Muggle world, fearing for the safety of their family. The move proved to be wise, as only days later, the house was ransacked before being burned to the ground. Tonks spent her school years as a Muggle girl by day, and a Witch by night. She found it difficult not to use her powers at school, particularly in the face of rude classmates. She erred once, leading to the discovery of the refugees by Voldemort's Ministry. While no one was killed in the ensuing battle, several people, including Andromeda were injured. This incident still haunts Tonks, who accepts her responsibility in it.
While still in secondary school, Tonks joined the Rebels, against her parents' wishes. Though they were quietly supportive of the Rebel position, they had no wish for their only daughter to join in the fray. After some fairly major arguments, Tonks went behind her parents back to join. Needless to say, they were livid. The anger has since cooled, but Andromeda does harbor some towards Sirius, who she believes was a large influence on Tonks's choice.
Tonks, seeing that a classroom was not the place for her, instead joined James and Dumbledore in the search for Muggleborn children. Tonks's warm demeanor and sense of humor helped ease the shock of the children, and their families, in both discovering their magical abilities and their precarious situation. Once collecting the young charges, Tonks made it her job to check in on them, and make sure they were comfortable.
Aside from genuinely caring about the kids, checking on them gave her an excuse to loiter around Remus Lupin, who she had developed feelings for. Despite his reluctance, she refused to give up. Their subtle flirting did not go unnoticed by other members of the Order, and, with some not-so-subtle nudges and outright threats, they finally began dating in the fall of 1993. They have not had the easiest of courtships, with arguments, separations, and shouting matches. Regardless, in May of 1997, he proposed. They were married shortly thereafter.
Tonks has been injured several times, twice seriously. Despite this, she refuses to take a classroom position, and insists on remaining as part of the "search and rescue" team.
Personality: At least two meaty paragraphs
Tonks's dad and Sirius were huge influences on her while growing up. Her father's warmth balances out the more callous nature of Sirius's sense of humor, both of which she inherited. She loves to make others laugh, and feel at ease. Working with young frightened children also tends to bring out Tonks's maternal instincts. She hates to see people in pain and quickly grows frustrated when she is unable to help. Tonks is loyal to a fault to those around her, and believes a promise is a sacred thing. Her love of adventure and good people skills make her an ideal part of the Order's Muggle-Born recovery efforts. She is unwilling to give up in the face of near certain failure; Tonks relies on that tenacity to be hopeful and optimistic. In turn, she believes in spreading that hope, believing morale is important.
Despite a cheery personality, an impressive intellect, and a warm demeanor, Tonks does have her issues. She is notoriously clumsy, and tends to be disorganized. She has her bouts of immaturity, and tends to be headstrong and impulsive. It is the latter trait that, as a frustrated school girl, caused her to use magic, revealing the refugees' location to the Death Eaters. While this had mellowed somewhat with age, it is aggravated when she is frustrated or bored. She has little use for authority, a trait which makes her prone to mischief and trouble. She masks an insecure streak, a streak often unintentionally revealed around Remus. In addition, Tonks's headstrong nature makes it difficult for her to back down and accept defeat, particularly in an argument. When panicked or scared, Tonks can be needy, a trait which irks some of those around her.
Barring the emergency involves Remus or her parents, Tonks is a good person to have around in a crisis. She is generally quick-thinking and resourceful. However, if her parents, or worse, Remus, are involved, all bets are off. Should anyone seek leverage against Tonks, threatening Remus, her parents, or the students at the school would be a highly effective method.

In Character ExamplesPlease provided links to your first journal entry (for THIS character) and provide a third person ('threading') response to one of the three following prompts:
1. It's Christmas Eve, and your character has just learned that something very negative/positive has just happened.
2. Your character has had a song stuck in their head for two days now and are getting very, very annoyed by it all.
3. The alarm clock rings at two hours before it usually does, on a Sunday morning.
[A/N: Events described herein are for the purpose of the samples only, and by no means are they expected to be incorporated in Absit Omen's canon.]
First Person
Prompt OneThey're alive! It couldn't be more brilliant.
The Connells, the family James and Sirius went looking for last week, the ones with the house in ruins, are alive. Everyone. Even the family cat. Apparently, they had been evading James and Sirius, assuming they were Death Eaters. They'd been living with Mrs. Connell's mum, who apparently is friends with Arabella Figg, who got word back to Dumbledore, who, along with Arabella, personally went to the house.
They're alive! I just can't get over it.
We thought for certain the Death Eaters had gotten to them. It was tragic. They were this little family, a mum, a dad, three kids and a cat, all apparently dead, a week before Christmas, no less. I didn't want to hear the details. It'd been a horrid stretch as it was. Could we at least go the bloody week before Hols without death? I kept thinking of the tree and the presents and it was just too bloody sad.
And then there was this morning, Christmas Eve, of all mornings, and then owl came and this little family, the mum, the dad, the three kids and the cat, were alive. Startled, unnerved, and a little scared, but alive!
Remus and I couldn't believe it. It was a miracle. A bloody Christmas miracle like the cheesy Muggle films. It was a good thing we were sitting on the floor (no,we don't have furniture yet, save for a mattress), or I think I would have knocked him over when I hugged him.
Bugger that. It was more like tackling. Enthused cheerful tackling, but tackling nonetheless.
We're going to Mum and Dad's for dinner; I can't wait to tell them the news.
Happy Christmas, England. Happy Christmas, indeed.
Third Person
Prompt ThreeTonks couldn't believe what she was hearing. It had to be a hallucination. There was no way the alarm was going off this sodding early.
Two hours early, assuming the bright and shiny hands on the clock were still pointing to the correct time.
Instead of seven am, the alarm was going off at five. On a Sunday, no less.
Remus, also awake, also highly unamused by the alarm's antics, reached over to the nightstand and, after some fumbling, found the 'off' switch. Silence sank back over the flat, meshing with the grey early morning light. London was quiet around them, with only the sound of the breeze in the trees outside the flat. Remus brushed his thumb absently back and forth across her back, and, Tonks settled down to enjoy what quiet time with him she could.
She may have been loathe to admit it, but the sodding alarm clock had brought some good. It brought two hours of Order-free, problem-free, violence-free time. Tonks couldn't remember the last time that happened. Either they were running about the UK, in Order meetings, or in arguments with other people or each other, stemming from Order meetings. While truth be told, she would have preferred a quiet evening in, a quiet morning was almost as good.
They didn't talk. She suspected Remus was still tired, or thinking, or worrying; Tonks, though, was just afraid of cocking-up the moment. She didn't trust herself with words. She'd probably say something stupid. No, she just wanted to be quiet and enjoy this.
How would you like to see this character grow in-game? What are your plans with them, and why this character? I'd like to see Tonks confront either the guilt she feels for the incident that led to the discovery of the refugees or losing a battle -- that is, being there when the Order's beaten to a child by a Death Eater. These both could trigger a dramatic set of developments for Tonks and lead to growth. Either way, I plan to have her follow along on the rescue missions, get into battles, and, once a Remus is found, have their relationship develop more. That development alone will shape her, as it is such a large part of her life. Given the general premise of Absit Omen, I see Tonks losing some of her hope and optimism (inevitable in a war), and, instead, adopting a somewhat harsher view. While this will not alter her overall personality when dealing with other people, it could leave her more vulnerable, a situation which I feel would be interesting to play.
I chose to apply as Tonks because I find her to be one of the most interesting characters in the book. She presents a public face of cheer, and exuberance, though through HBP and DH, it is made clear that all is not well with Tonks. In a premise such as Absit Omen, Tonks's canonical faults (clumsiness, stubborness, folly of youth) could be explored in an interesting, albeit darker, arena.
